A classic design used to demonstrate transpiration rates and the rate of water absorption by a cut plant shoot under different external conditions. The plant shoot is sealed into a stopper that fits the end of the tube, and the whole apparatus is filled with water. The open end of the capillary tube is dipped into a beaker of water, and the position of the air bubble can be adjusted by opening the glass stopcock to admit water from the reservoir.
Unlike the backing-plate style potometer, Ganong's design is mounted on a varnished wooden base and held in place with spring clips, a traditional setup still widely used to teach the mechanics of transpiration.
Base: 20 x 80mm
Capillary Bore: 1mm
